In Northwest Georgia that has spent years watching its needs ignored while national spectacle took center stage, Shawn Harris is stepping forward to bring real representation back to Congress. A retired Army General, decorated combat veteran, farmer, and lifelong Georgian, Shawn is running for Congress in Georgia’s 14th District to put working families, veterans, and rural communities first.
Shawn grew up on his family’s farm in Blakely, Georgia and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps after high school, eventually rising to the rank of Sergeant. After earning his degree in Agribusiness from Tuskegee University, he continued his service following 9/11 as a combat infantry commander in Afghanistan. Over a 40 year military career, Shawn led missions across the globe including during the Ebola outbreak in Liberia, served as a senior military advisor, earned multiple honors for leadership and valor, and completed advanced studies in Strategic Studies at the Army War College. He retired as an Army General and returned home to Georgia with his wife Karla, a family physician, where they raised five children and now enjoy life with their grandchildren on the same land that shaped him.
In 2024, Shawn built a historic coalition of Democrats, Independents, and common sense Republicans, earning more votes than any Democrat in the district in over a decade. Now, with Marjorie Taylor Greene’s resignation and an open seat for the first time in years, Shawn is back to finish the work and deliver leadership that actually shows up for Northwest Georgia.
